Kick off spring with the City of Moorhead!

Featuring Mayor Shelly Carlson, City Manager Dan Mahli, and Building Official Mike Moss, March's Building Industry Connect will provide you a chance to discover all things Moorhead. 

About our guests:

Mayor Shelly Carlson 


Mayor Carlson attended MSUM and earned her BA in Legal Assistance and Masters in Public Administration. She was first elected to the City Council in 2018 and served on the Moorhead Library board, Lake Agassiz Regional Library Board, Joint Powers Board and the Metro Area Flood Diversion board. She was appointed as Mayor in February 2021, and simultaneously assumed the role of Flood Diversion Chair for 2021. In June, 2022 she was elected to serve another term as Mayor. She has served on many boards in our community and in her free time, enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, and reading. 

City Manager Dan Mahli 


Dan has a Masters in Public and Human Service Administration from MSUM and a Bachelor’s Degree from NDSU. Before working for Moorhead, he was the Community Development Administrator for the City of Fargo and Executive Director of the Park Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce. He is married to his wife Kim, and they 4 children.

Building Official Mike Moss 

Moss has been a commercial building inspector since 2016. From 2016 till 2022 he was a commercial building inspector for the City of Fargo. In March of 2022, he accepted the role as the Building Official for the City of Moorhead. He has been in the construction industry since 1997 as a carpenter, foreman and superintendent on various residential and commercial projects. He also recently taught a class for the HBA's Minnesota Building Contractors Continuing Education.

The HBA of F-M's Building Industry Connect sessions are a chance for our members to introduce the association and its goals. No presentations, no agendas and no parliamentary procedures. Just the chance for officials and members to learn about each other.

Admission is $25 and includes lunch.
